23ABC Evening Weather Update 11/6/2026
SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA — Forecasters are watching for back-to-back storm systems aimed at California as the overall weather pattern is expected to shift significantly toward mid-November. Multiple powerful storms could arrive one after another, bringing periods of heavy rainfall, especially if atmospheric rivers become involved, which looks increasingly possible. Northern and Central California, including San Francisco and Sacramento, appear to be first in line. Southern California and nearby regions, including Los Angeles, San Diego and Las Vegas, could follow as the pattern evolves. The European model forecast for 10 p.m. PST Wednesday, November 11, shows a powerful jet stream stretching across the entire North Pacific Ocean straight into the California coast.
Enjoy the wonderful weather this weekend, because it won’t last much longer. This weekend, high temperatures will sit comfortably in the low 70s and upper 60s across Central California, and even into the low 80s for portions of Southern California; all just slightly above average for early November. With mostly sunny skies and light winds, it is the perfect weekend to spend outside, whether it be on the coast or in the mountains. This is all thanks to a weak ridge of high pressure that is setting up over the western U.S. As it sits overhead, skies are cleared and temperatures underneath the ridge will stay slightly above average alongside calm and stable skies. For the Sacramento area, high temperatures Friday will rise into the upper 60s and low 70s with some briefly passing clouds, and rise a few degrees more on Saturday as skies remain sunny. A few extra clouds to go around Sunday, but even then temps remain steady. Lows in the 40s during this stretch are typical for early November. It is the same story elsewhere. For the San Joaquin Valley, highs in the low 70s for Modesto, Merced, Fresno and San Jose on Friday will rise
These events are "like a parade of storms."

Pacific Coast Highway is one of America's most iconic drives. And right now, one stretch of it is fighting to stay above the Pacific. At El Morro, beside Crystal Cove State Park near Laguna Beach, a massive fracture has opened along the bluff supporting PCH. Caltrans says the crack measures as much as 360 feet long and two feet wide. With the ocean chewing away at the slope below, crews are racing to stabilize the hillside before winter's worst storms arrive.
California is already facing severe impacts from El Niño, mostly in the form of coastal flooding. From San Diego to the Bay area, many cities have been dealing with flooding off and on over the past few weeks. And climate scientists say that it's just a preview of what's to come this winter as El Niño continues to unfold. KQED's Ezra David Romero joins us now from San Francisco. Hi, Ezra.

The sea wall along the Long Beach Peninsula and several homes have been affected by rising tides and swells caused by a surging Kelvin wave and an El Niño. In early October, the effects of an El Niño pattern along the West Coast, and its growing movement of warm water toward Southern California, could put pressure on marine ecosystems adapted to colder ocean conditions, endangering marine life.
