Although Chattanooga (Tenn.) Baylor School running back Shekai Mills-Knight may not be one the highest-ranked prospect in the 2025 class just yet, that has not stopped a handful of Power Four programs from aggressively pursuing the talented tailback, including the Miami Hurricanes.

On May 31, Mills-Knight will be making his return to Coral Gables for his official visit with the Hurricanes as they look to beat out multiple SEC programs for his commitment.

“I’m looking forward to it, and I’m excited,” Mills-Knight told CaneSport. “I really want to see if Miami can be a home again.”

Earlier this spring, Miami running backs coach Matt Merritt visited Mills-Knight at the Baylor School as the two continued to develop their relationship. In conversations, Merritt and Mill-Knight have talked football, life and much more.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking , Mills-Knights is the No. 543-ranked prospect in the 2025 class, but that has not stopped the Hurricanes from prioritizing the Canadian-native.

“We always talk ball, which is nice,” Mills-Knight said of his relationship with Merritt. “We talk about where all he’s been, who’s developed at the running back position, how he’s a good teacher, and how he can teach me a lot of ball if I come to Miami.”

The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder believes Miami is heading in the right direction under head coach Mario Cristobal and company. Following his spring visit to Coral Gables back in April, Mills-Knight raved about the Hurricanes offensive line unit and what Cristobal is building in the trenches.

“Most of the offensive linemen are freshmen, so if I come here, they’ll be more experienced,” Mills-Knight said. “I know they’ll be pushing that weight for me. That’s something that excites me.”

The environment and connection with Miami’s staff are also aspects that have attracted Mills-Knight to the Hurricanes.

“The beautiful atmosphere, culture, and diversity really stand out,” Mills-Knight said. “And I think that they’re building something special.”

Along with his official visit to Miami, Mills-Knight will also visit Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, and Ole Miss this summer. Following his OVs, Mills-Knight will hope to announce his decisions ahead of his senior year.

“Just that gut feeling,” Mill-Knight said. “I want to commit, ideally before the season, but if I don’t feel it yet, I don’t mind waiting to commit during the season.”

    CaneSport’s take

Miami will have the chance to set the bar for Mills-Knight’s first official visit in less than two weeks. The sought-after tailback has plenty of suitors, and the Hurricanes will be in a very tough battle to land his commitment against a handful of SEC programs.
