Homeless pregnant mothers given stability, guidance in North Texas nonprofit
Pregnancy can be as scary as it is exciting. Morning nausea, constant fatigue, a nagging fear of complications — and for some mothers, lack of housing. A mother experiencing homelessness may worry about how to care for her baby, or if Child Protective Services will let them keep the child, said Meredith McPhail, director of family stability services with the Catholic Charities of Dallas. But mothers who find themselves in this position can find a safe space in Collin County with Mater Maria’s maternity homes.

A New Drive-In Theatre Is Coming To McKinney
Movie night is getting a little dose of nostalgia in McKinney. Instead of finding a seat in a dark theater, moviegoers can settle into lawn chairs, gather around their cars and watch a film beneath the Texas sky at Wayback Drive-In, a new outdoor movie theater opening this November. Located at Wayback Barn, 3964 County Road 168, the drive-in is the latest addition to the four-acre outdoor entertainment destination in north McKinney. A grand opening is scheduled for Nov. 6-8. It is the only drive-in movie theater in McKinney and one of the few still operating in North Texas. Guests who purchase movie tickets also receive admission to Wayback Barn, where they can arrive early to play yard games, take on the mini-golf course or grab something to eat and drink before the show. "We wanted to give families a reason to slow down, share a meaningful experience, and turn movie night back into an outdoor social event," said owner Laura O'Dowd. More Than A Movie There is plenty to do before the opening credits roll. The property features a collection of outdoor games, including gaga ball, tetherball, nine square, horseshoes, volleyball, cornhole, ping-pong, foosball, bocce ball and giant Jenga.

Allen, Frisco ISD sport state-ranked boys basketball teams to begin 2026-27 season
Nov. 13 marks the first day of non-district games for UIL boys basketball programs, officially putting the 2026-27 season in full swing. Last season saw programs like Frisco Heritage and Little Elm make history by winning the first state championships in their respective histories. Both teams graduated sizable senior classes, while other area squads look to make their own push towards hoisting a UIL title by season’s end. Several of those programs have generated some early buzz for 2026-27 as part of the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches' preseason state rankings. Class 6A 1. Allen Ranked atop 6A to begin the season, the Eagles are coming off a 24-7 campaign that produced a District 6-6A championship and an appearance in the regional finals. Allen has advanced at least three rounds deep in the playoffs each of the past three seasons, including a state semifinal run in 2025, and it’ll navigate its 2026-27 campaign with four of its top six scorers from last season back in the fold. Lovejoy holds off The Colony in defensive battle
LUCAS -- Junior quarterback Nixon Slaughter accounted for 259 yards of total offense and three touchdowns to lead the Lovejoy football team to a 21-14 win over The Colony in District 3-5A Division II action at Leopard Stadium Thursday night. In a contest featuring two playoff-bound programs and several of the area’s statistical leaders on offense, it was the defense on both sides that dictated the game, with four punts and three turnovers in the first half alone. The Colony (7-3, 3-3) took a 7-0 lead after a scoreless first quarter when senior quarterback Jayden Gaines raced in from 83 yards out with 4:52 remaining in the first half. Slaughter capped a 15-play, 75-yard drive with a three-yard touchdown run to tie the score 7-7 late in the second quarter. After forcing another punt midway through the third quarter, Lovejoy (9-1, 5-1) took over near midfield. Junior Coleman Reaugh hauled in a 12-yard pass on third and long to give the Leopards a first down at The Colony’s 25-yard line.
