COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) — A long line of strong storms moved into central Ohio Sunday afternoon and evening, bringing damaging winds with some of the downpours.

A lull developed in the evening in the wake of a disturbance lifting northward with a warm front. Now a second round of strong storms is moving in, with low pressure tracking across the lower Great Lakes. The latest round of rain and storms, with heavy rain and gusty winds, will arrive by 2 a.m.

The greatest risk of severe weather will be in southern Ohio, but pockets of heavy rain and strong winds will accompany clusters of storms as far north as the Columbus area.

Rain and weakening storms will taper off to a few showers toward daybreak. Winds will increase from the west, gusting between 15 and 25 mph, and temperatures will stay in the 70s on Memorial Day, with lingering clouds. A few periods of sunshine will provide opportunities for outdoor activities throughout the day, despite a stray shower or two.

This week will be noticeably cooler, as upper-level low pressure hangs around, along with a few scattered showers Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs will only reach the low 70s. Sunshine will return later in the week, with a gradual weekend warming trend.
