COLUMBUS, Ohio ( WCMH ) — One person is dead Thursday afternoon after a shooting in the North Linden neighborhood.

At about 1:21 p.m., Columbus police were dispatched to the 1200 block of Manchester Avenue on a report of a roommate dispute. While driving to the scene, officers were informed that a shooting had taken place, according to the Columbus Division of Police.

Once police arrived, they encountered Brian Sias, 37, outside the residence with his hands in the air, and took him into custody. Officers located William Applegate, 29, inside the residence suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at 1:31 p.m. Sias was subsequently charged with murder.

Sias told police in an interview that he and Applegate were fighting about their living situation and he used his gun in self defense. He stated that Applegate pushed him to the ground and punched and kicked him repeatedly. A witness confirmed that the two were arguing, but told police that both Sias and Applegate struck each other before hearing a gunshot.

Sias is scheduled to appear in court Friday at 9 a.m. for an arraignment hearing.
