One person was pronounced dead after reportedly falling off stands at Ohio State University ’s commencement ceremony Sunday.

The identity of the person and the events that led to the death is not known at this time. The Franklin County Coroner’s Office is working to identify the victim.

"An individual fell from the stands. They are deceased," OSU spokesman Ben Johnson said. "We have no additional details to share at this time. Police and emergency responders are on scene. For anyone affected by today's incident, we will make counseling and other support resources available."

Commencement ceremonies continued uninterrupted despite the death. No reference to the death was made during the ceremony.

“I need medics and some officers at gate 30 (of Ohio Stadium) ... had one fall off the stadium,” a police officer said over OSU police radio, according to the Columbus Dispatch .

Based on the time of the radio correspondence from the police, it is believed that it occurred while students were walking into Ohio Stadium for the graduation ceremony. The person likely fell before speeches and other graduation festivities took place.

One witness said he saw a person fall as the last graduates were filing into the stadium.

The commencement was hosted at Ohio Stadium in Columbus, which can hold up to 100,000 people. Ohio State has the third highest enrollment amongst American colleges and universities.
