Rakim Lubin, Former UConn Basketball Star, Dies at 28
It’s a sad day for the University of Connecticut basketball fans. Former UConn men’s basketball player Rakim Lubin has died. The alum was just 28 years old too. Lubin played for the team during the 2014-15 season. Growing up in Gadsen, Alabama, he earned the nickname “Rock” thanks to both his size and intimidating figure. He used that to his advantage while on the court. It let him go far. He became a three-star recruit after graduating from Buford High School in Georgia. Lubin also earned all-region honors and first-team all-state. He earned Georgia Sportswriters 3A layer of the Year. Ultimately, Lubind decided to go to UConn over Auburn and Georgia Tech.
Plainview softball knocks Piedmont out of state tournament, advances to Fridays slate
OXFORD — Just like a week ago, Plainview softball took down Piedmont to advance. The Bears earned the 7-2 win over the Bulldogs. It wasn't full déjà vu, as this time it was to advance in the elimination bracket at the AHSAA Class 3A state softball tournament. The Bears will play again at 10:45 a.m. Friday on Field Two at Choccolocco Park.
Southside boys soccer's Randy Vice looking forward to next season after Final Four appearance
Southside boys soccer went on a magical run this season, ending in the AHSAA Final Four for the first time in school history. It also marked the second straight season the Panthers won more than 20 games as they ended the year with 25-3-1 record. They were led by Camren Thompson with his 52 goals. The team earned the Etowah County championship and won the Rainbow City Classic, along with a big win over Mountain Brook....
Alabama Christian softball falls to Plainview in the Class 3A softball state tournament
OXFORD — With the game scoreless through the first four innings, Plainview’s seventh inning heroics propelled it past Alabama Christian (15-19) 4-3 in the Class 3A first round of the AHSAA softball state championships. Jada Hampton’s two-run home run gave Plainview (34-9) its first lead of the game in the bottom of the fifth. Izzy Warrick got an RBI in the sixth inning for Alabama Christian’s first runs. ...
