    Plainview softball knocks Piedmont out of state tournament, advances to Fridays slate

    OXFORD — Just like a week ago, Plainview softball took down Piedmont to advance.

    The Bears earned the 7-2 win over the Bulldogs.

    It wasn't full déjà vu, as this time it was to advance in the elimination bracket at the AHSAA Class 3A state softball tournament. The Bears will play again at 10:45 a.m. Friday on Field Two at Choccolocco Park.

    Plainview struck first in the first go around with two runs before Cayla Brothers got the Bulldogs on the board with a solo homerun. The Bulldogs tied the game in the bottom of the third before the Bears broke it wide open. After loading the bases Kylee Dutton hit a double scoring two runs before Abby Williams singled and scored two more runs.

    Plainview used both Chloe Hatch and Shianne Parker on the mound, they combined to allowed just three hits and struck out three batters. Parker pitched the final four innings, holding the Bulldogs scoreless.

    Piedmont's season comes to a close going 25-12 and making back to the Elite Eight for the fourth straight season. It also marks the end of Savannah Smith's illustrious for the Bulldogs. Smith has signed to continue her career at Jax State. Smith pitched all seven innings allowing 10 hits and striking out just one batter.
