Williamsport, Pa. — An alleged drug dealer arranged to sell methamphetamine and crack to a police informant, but stole the money instead, according to charges.
Tyler John McKinney, 32, of Cogan Station took the money in February after promising an informant the drugs, detectives with the Lycoming County Narcotics Enforcement Unit said. McKinney claimed he used the marked bills to buy cocaine, crack cocaine, and fentanyl for his own use, detectives added.
McKinney agreed to meet an informant in early February at the Hepburn Plaza, according to investigators. He allegedly gave the person a small amount of crack cocaine. McKinney told the informant the product was good, investigators added.
McKinney met the informant on Feb. 12 near the corner of River Avenue and East Third Street, according to the complaint. He exchanged 3.98 grams of crack cocaine for $300, an investigator wrote.
A third deal was arranged by the informant with McKinney the next day, police said. McKinney met the informant and took $500 before leaving, police added.
McKinney promised to return with an ounce of methamphetamine and seven grams of crack cocaine, according to the report. McKinney never came back.
Law enforcement spoke with McKinney last week, according to a new complaint filed. During the conversation, McKinney claimed he would turn himself in by the end of the day, detectives said. McKinney failed to keep his word, they added.
McKinney is being charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, criminal use of a communication facility, and theft by deception. McKinney was charged with third-degree felony flight to avoid apprehension as part of the new affidavit.
