CHESTER COUNTY, PA (KYW Newsradio) — A three-legged kitten found bound in duct tape in Chester County a few months ago has been adopted.

The nightmare for the tiny five-week-old tabby was discovered March 26 , when officers found her wrapped in duct tape in a Coatesville house with 37 other animals in squalid conditions.

The one-pound kitten they named Roo was missing part of a front limb and needed the rest of it amputated, said Brandywine Valley SPCA Communications Director Sara Smith.

"It turned out that that duct tape was covering up that she had lost a front limb," Smith said. "We wouldn't normally want to do surgery on a kitten that small. It's dangerous."

But the risky surgery was successful and Roo recovered at the home of an SPCA staffer.

Then, last week, Roo met the woman who would give her a permanent home.

"The new adopter had suffered a loss of a pet recently and heard about Roo's story and had a dream about Roo and then ended up meeting Roo," Smith said. "When Roo met this adopter, it was hard to get her away. She fell right asleep in the adopter's arms. It was like Roo picked her."

"We have no idea what happened, how Roo suffered this horrible injury, what life she could have been living if she had stayed in that house along with those other animals who have been rescued," Smith said.

Court records show 32-year-old Karissa Batson is awaiting trial on more than 100 counts of animal cruelty, torture and neglect.
