BLOUNT COUNTY, Tenn. — After many years spent working to become a U.S. citizen, a Blount County woman is doing her part for democracy. Suheir Tabanja came to Knoxville from the West Bank with a dream of becoming a U.S. citizen. She fulfilled that dream over the spring and said she was eager to walk into a polling location for the first time as a citizen, the Blount County Public Library.
AMR showing improvement in Knox County, but still has room to grow
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - Knox County data obtained by WVLT News show that ambulance response times in and around Knoxville are improving, but there’s still room to grow. The latest numbers come as American Medical Response (AMR) is about to enter its seventh month under a new contract. Leading up to that contract renewal, a WVLT News investigation uncovered hundreds of documents, emails and complaints from inside the county showing how dangerous the situation had become.

Man sentenced to 12 years in prison after deadly drag racing crash in January 2023
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — A man who pleaded guilty to vehicular homicide by drag-racing in April, as well as other crimes, was sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison on Friday. Tra'Shawn Glass entered a blind plea in late April, meaning there was no recommended punishment term between him and Knox County prosecutors. He was also charged with drag racing and with assaults.
League of Angels aims to make baseball accessible for all
Local nonprofit League of Angels is partnering with the Town of Farragut to demonstrate how baseball can be enjoyed by people of all abilities. The League of Angels Festival is 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, at Mayor Bob Leonard Park, 301 Watt Road. The event will feature an exhibition game, along with food trucks, vendors and music. The community is invited to celebrate and support baseball for those with disabilities.
