A Few Storms & Muggy 5-16-2024
For more Permian Basin weather…check here on https://www.yourbasin.com/weather/forecast/. Clouds to start in eastern West Texas, as well as the mountains of The Trans Pecos, will give way to sunnier skies later today, but Meteorologist Ryan DePhillips expects below-normal high temperatures. As an upper-level low pressure system to the northwest continues to move eastward, the moisture will continue to move to the eastern parts of The Lone Star State with northwesterly drier winds to start. With some strong isolated thunderstorms quickly moving through this afternoon, temperatures will struggle to reach the 70’s, 80’s, and low 90’s as north-northeasterly winds will eventually develop. Clearer skies with chillier air tomorrow morning will lead to a warmer afternoon later on, but conditions will keep on drastically changing just in time for the weekend.

Tree-killing beetles newly detected in McLennan County
MCLENNAN COUNTY, Texas — Texas A&M Forest Service is warning about a tree-killing beetle that was recently discovered in McLennan County. The insect is called the emerald ash borer (EAB) and it's considered to be one of the most invasive pests in the country, already reportedly killing tens of millions of ash trees. It's metallic green in color and is non‐native to the United States, which means the trees have no defenses against the bugs. The beetle was first detected in Texas in 2016 and has slowly spread further south, according to the Texas A&M Forest Service.
Few Storms with Dust 5-15-2024
For more Permian Basin weather…check here on https://www.yourbasin.com/weather/forecast/. Thunderstorms may be a bit more widespread across West Texas later today, but before then in the mid afternoon, Meteorologist Ryan DePhillips expects temperatures to soar into the 80’s, 90’s, and low triple digits for most, above normal for this time of year. An unstable atmospheric disturbance to the southwest, combining with an uptick in surface moisture from the southeast, will combine to produce the muggier conditions today. Southwesterly winds in far western areas of The Trans Pecos will keep conditions mostly dry, but south-southeasterly winds in eastern areas will keep conditions a bit muggier. Where those winds will collide will be where the storms will form, but conditions will be clearer from clouds and cooler tomorrow as a cold front arrives with northwesterly to northeasterly winds.

Its teams were able to complete track repairs as the water levels decreased because it had “recovery equipment and materials pre-positioned.” The main track resumed service on Tuesday, the 7th. That same day, a derailment occurred in the subdivision near Clifton, located 39 miles northwest of Waco. The main track opened on the 9th, “but customers should expect lingering delays into next week as traffic normalizes.”
