Clemson's Dabo Swinney is undoubtedly one of the best college football head coaches of the CFP era, but the past few years have turned a few fans against him.

The Tigers haven't looked like the same program that won multiple championships, and Dabo's decision not to use the transfer portal has drawn the ire of those who analyze the program.

Recently, Swinney was on the ACC Network and made some comments about the portal that has fans ripping into him.

When asked about being the only non-service academy to not take a transfer, Swinney said "Every player is technically a transfer. We just signed a whole class of guys transferring from high school”

And it's safe to say that people didn't react very positively to that line.

Every coach does things differently, but in this case, it feels like Dabo's stubbornness about the portal is setting him back in the sport.

While Swinney gets some hate for not using the portal to bring guys in, it's hard not to admire his ability to keep guys from heading out.

"We had 127 players go through spring, and 125 are still on our roster, post-portal. So maybe we should get like a trophy," Swinney said.

Dabo also made it a point to emphasize how many of Clemson's players get a degree before they leave the school, something else he's very proud of.

But that wasn't even a point that many fans respected.

While it's hard to fault someone for sticking to their principles, it's fair to say that Swinney deserves the ridicule he's gotten for staying steadfast in the changing world of the sport.
