15-year-old driver of stolen car involved in police chase, Northboro crash faces multiple charges
WORCESTER - The driver behind the wheel during a wild chase that ended in a crash was just 15 years old.The Lawrence teen faces a long list of charges, including failing to stop for police, speeding and unlicensed operation.Police said the Lexus was stolen in Peabody. The driver avoided police in Natick and other MetroWest towns. The State Police Air Wing began tracking the car, which traveled west on Route 9 and onto 495 North. State Police were alerted and caught up with the car near Route 117 in Bolton and began tracing the car.The driver headed onto Route 290 West and, according to police, collided with two vehicles on the ramp before being stopped by stop sticks set up by police on the highway. The car hit the sticks and then hit a third vehicle before stopping on the median strip. Two passengers in the Lexus had minor injuries and were transported to the hospital. One of the passengers, Kyen Perez, 20, of Fitchburg, will also face charges. The second passenger, a 20-year-old woman, was treated and released. The teen's name has not been released because of his

Shenandoah targets more demo projects
(Shenandoah) -- Four more properties are targeted for demolition in Shenandoah. By unanimous vote Tuesday evening, the Shenandoah City Council approved the solicitation of bids for tearing down or cleaning up city-owned properties at 809 5th Avenue, 301 College Street, 212 East Lowell Avenue and 211 West Sheridan Avenue. Speaking on KMA's "Morning Line" program Wednesday morning, Shenandoah Mayor Roger McQueen says it's all part of the city's proactive efforts to address nuisance properties.
Market at the Mill marks building's rebirth
(Shenandoah) -- After years of dormancy, an iconic Shenandoah structure showed signs of vibrancy late Thursday afternoon. Residents from all over KMAland flocked to the first-ever Market at the Mills in downtown Shenandoah. Exhibitors from a wide area displayed a vast array of plants, crafts, food and other items in tables set up on the former Johnson Brothers Mills Building's first floor. It's the first use of the building since July, 2022 when the Shenandoah City Council approved a resolution of support for MALOJA, Incorporated's renovation of the structure at 818 West Sheridan Avenue. And, it's a dream come true for MALOJA owner Margaret Brady, who tells KMA News she envisioned a farmer's market as one possible use for the building.
Red Oak suspect booked on theft charges
(Red Oak) -- A suspect is in custody in connection with a Red Oak theft investigation. Red Oak Police say 29-year-old Tylor Daniel Fine of Red Oak was arrested Tuesday morning for 2nd degree theft. The arrest took place in the 100 block of East Nuckols Street at around 9:45 a.m. Fine is being held in the Montgomery County Jail on $5,000 bond.

Market at the Mill makes Thursday debut
(Shenandoah) -- Shenandoah celebrates the renaissance of a venerable downtown building with a big event Thursday night. Exhibitors from all over the region are participating in the first-ever Market at the Mill from 4-to-7 p.m. Margaret Brady is owner of MALOJA, Incorporated, the organization spearheading the renovation of the former Johnson Brothers Mill Building. Brady says approximately 28 vendors selling various products will occupy the building's first floor on opening night. Thursday's event marks the first major development since renovation efforts began two years ago. In a March interview with KMA News, Brady says Market at the Mill is part of an overall vision for the facility--and downtown activities.

Shen council adopts police residency amendment
(Shenandoah) -- Shenandoah Police may now hire part-time out-of-state law enforcement officers. Two months of continuing debate came to an abrupt end Tuesday night, as the Shenandoah City Council unanimously approved the second reading of an amendment to the city's police residency ordinance. Council members Kim Swank and Toni Graham--both originally opposed to the amendment--switched their votes from the first reading two weeks ago in Tuesday night's roll call.
