I took a Dolly Parton-inspired flight. Here’s what it was like

SANFORD, Florida – I counted at least six blonde wigs on a Dolly Parton-inspired flight from Florida to Tennessee. “We knew the assignment, so we had to do it,” Karen Nehus said after we landed. She wore a pink sequined jacket, black fringe shirt and matching pants with her mane of platinum curls. Other passengers donned denim, rhinestones and T-shirts with Parton’s face on it for Allegiant Air Flight 925. It was the first of two specially numbered "Destination Dollywood" flights from Orlando Sanford International Airport to Knoxville's McGhee Tyson Airport on Nov. 6, and part of a whole weekend planned at Dollywood. Allegiant and Dollywood dreamed up the fan experience well before Parton's passing in August, announcing the first flight back in February. “Allegiant tells us the Dollywood-themed flight was one of the fastest-selling flights in their history,” Dollywood Parks & Resorts President Eugene Naughton said in a statement in March, when the second flight, Flight 2925, was announced. Both were numbered after Parton's hit song "9 to 5." A Dopo is serving Knoxville something new. The Slice Bar opens this week

Hungry customers can skip the reservations and grab a slice of award-winning pizza at A Dopo, which on Nov. 5 is expanding with The Slice Bar . The Slice Bar will add 2,200 square feet of space behind A Dopo at 516 Williams St., just north of the Old City. The opening follows A Dopo recently being named to the Michelin Guide to the American South with a Bib Gourmand distinction , which recognizes restaurants serving “great food at a great value." "We've maxed out our wood-burning oven," co-owner Brian Strutz previously told Knox News. "We can't make more pizza right now." A Dopo, named to USA TODAY's 2025 Restaurants of the Year list , has built a loyal base of sourdough pizza lovers. Reservations are notoriously hard to come by, and Strutz knows there are plenty of Knoxville diners A Dopo hasn't been able to serve. The Slice Bar gives A Dopo a creative way to welcome more guests. LENOIR CITY — Business owners and professionals from across Loudon County gathered Friday, Aug. 28, for the Loudon County Chamber of Commerce’s quarterly Power to Promote Networking Lunch at El Señor Rancho Mexican Restaurant in Lenoir City. The event brought together chamber members and guests for an opportunity to discuss their businesses, share organizational goals, exchange contact information and develop relationships with other members of the local business community. The quarterly luncheon series is designed to encourage networking and professional connections while also supporting local restaurants that are members of the Loudon County Chamber of Commerce. During the gathering, attendees enjoyed lunch at El Señor Rancho while participating in conversations about their businesses, exchanging promotional ideas and discussing opportunities to work together. The chamber uses the recurring events to provide business owners, entrepreneurs and other professionals with opportunities to introduce their services, learn about other local businesses and strengthen connections throughout Loudon County. The Local Bite offers comforting American fare in Loudon | Grub Scout

In most cases, I add restaurants to my list when I first hear about them. But often, by the time I actually get around to trying a place out, I’ve long since forgotten how I learned about it in the first place. Such was the case with The Local Bite in Loudon. All I recall is that it came well reviewed, based on my research. That was good enough for me to stick to my original plan to give it a shot. The Grub Spouse accompanied me to Loudon County for dinner one evening last week. We found the business on the south side of town in a small retail plaza. Inside, the atmosphere is typical of what one might find in a mom-and-pop diner: a modest number of tables and chairs in a moderately sized dining room. The trappings weren’t thematic per se, but the setting was aesthetically pleasing enough. The Local Bite’s current menu has been in place since spring and offers a familiar lineup of American fare.
