CISSNA PARK, Ill. (WCIA) — If you’re driving down Route 49 in Cissna Park, you might see a big mural on the side of a barn. The owner wanted a piece of art on his property to represent his time serving in the Marine Corps.

He found artist Aaron Schmit from Georgetown on Facebook and asked him to paint the mural, which features troops standing in front of flag while the sun is setting.

Schmit said he’s painted hundreds of pieces in the last four years. His works of art are in more than 30 states, and his goal is to get to all 50.

“Just spread positivity and hope, and let people know that when people say you can’t do something, you can,” Schmit said. “Everyone’s told me ‘no’ my whole life, and now I’m painting buildings and people are loving it. And it’s an amazing thing.”

Schmit said he’s been getting a lot of traction on Facebook and has a project coming soon in Rantoul.
