15 street robberies occur on North Side in recent days: Police

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Police are alerting people about yet another series of armed street robberies.

The latest alert comes from the 18th District, on the city’s North Side. At least 15 street robberies occurred last Friday and Monday.

They occurred in various neighborhoods including Lincoln Park, Lakeview, Belmont-Cragin, Portage Park, and Goose Island.

In each incident, a group of armed and masked young men hop out of cars, point guns and rob people.

Police Supt. Larry Snelling said recently, they’re taking these incidents seriously.

"I mean every word of it. We're going after violent offenders, because we have to think about the trauma that they are inflicting upon our citizens."

There was another one Thursday morning on the 3500 block of West Belmont. It happened at 3:20 a.m.

Four people got out of a car, two armed with handguns and two with rifles and robbed two men standing on a sidewalk.

Police have a real challenge with the perception that these incidents create.
