GRASONVILLE — Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff deputies arrested a man and woman suspected of stealing $5,000 worth of merchandise from a Walgreens, ending in the pair crashing the vehicle into the Waterman’s Monument and being apprehended.

At approximately 5:01 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, deputies responded to the Walgreens located in the 1800 block of Chester for reports of a theft. While canvassing the area, a deputy observed a vehicle returning to the location with two individuals inside matching the suspect’s descriptions. The vehicle then fled the area at a high rate of speed.

Johnston attempted to catch up to the vehicle and observed it driving through the Route 18 drawbridge traffic arm, before continuing to travel over the partially open bridge.

Responding deputies on the other side of the open bridge located the vehicle crashed into the Waterman’s Monument at the corner of Main Street and Kent Narrows Way South. There was no direct damage to the monument itself, just the pylons, plants and flowers surrounding it. No injuries were reported.

Witnesses advised the subjects ran behind Fisherman’s Inn Restaurant. The two subjects were located and apprehended. Over $5,000 worth of stolen merchandise was recovered from the scene.

The suspects were identified as Malik Lewis, 26, of Hagerstown and Donneisha Briscoe, 24, of Bowie.

Lewis was charged with conspiracy to commit theft $1,500 to under $25,000, conspiracy to commit theft scheme $1,500-$25,000, fourth-degree burglary, theft $100 to under $1,500, and theft scheme $100 to under $1500.

In addition to facing the same charges as Lewis, Briscoe was charged with malicious destruction of property less than $1,000 and 23 traffic-related offenses.

Sheriff Gary Hofmann said, “Our community’s safety is non-negotiable. I commend the diligent efforts of our deputies in swiftly and safely apprehending these individuals."

The investigation is ongoing, no further information will be released at this time, police said. Anyone with information regarding this case is asked to call the anonymous tip line at 410-758-6666 or contact the sheriff's office at 410-758-0770.
