A historic week in Chatham High School sports
It was a tight game from the start. It wasn’t until midway through the game when runs started to score and it was a nail biter to the end. The Chatham Cavalier Baseball team faced the Nelson County Governors on Friday, April 26. Nelson had most of the momentum in the beginning until an awesome diving catch made by Cody Walden. That catch got the entire dugout and stands fired up. The Cavaliers defeated the Governors 4-3. Alex Van Pelt went three for three. Kennen Lewis went two for three. Caleb Cassell, Zander Cornell, and Cody Walden all had a hit with an RBI. Jude Reece also had a perfectly placed hit to put the Cavaliers in scoring position. The game ended the way no one wants to ever see. Caleb Cassell was up to bat with bases loaded and was hit by the pitch. Caleb Cassell pitched six innings only allowing three hits on five strikeouts while only giving up three walks. Payton Daniel finished it off pitching one inning and only allowed two hits. The Cavaliers are now 6-6-1 on the season and will face William Campbell on Friday at William Campbell High School at 5:30 p.m.
