Charlottesville Ballet Celebrates America’s 250th Anniversary
Imagine two and a half centuries of American triumph, anguish, joy, fear, and hope unraveling before you on a grand stage. This March, the Charlottesville Ballet joins forces with Opera on the James to give audiences precisely that, with a two-act multimedia show highlighting major historical moments that have led the nation to modern day. Beginning with the Revolution era, the performance dances through the Civil War, the Civil Rights movement, and the voices of today, ending with a look toward future generations of trailblazers. With guest violinist Virgil Moore, Juilliard student and Lynchburg native, the show will not only be a tribute to American history at large but a celebration of Virginia’s homegrown arts and culture scene. Showing at the Paramount Theater in Charlottesville on March 14 and the Academy Center for the Arts in Lynchburg on March 21, “it will be like skimming through chapters in a living history book,” says Emily Hartka, director and co-founder of the Charlottesville Ballet. The mesmerizing blend of dance, music, art, poetry, and history makes Voices of Virginia a performance worth waiting 250 years for. CharlottesvilleBallet.org, OperaOnTheJames.org.

But the signs were there for anyone who looked hard enough.
