UNC’s Mack Brown Makes Bold Statement About Drake Maye’s Potential

Many football observers and fans are in general agreement that North Carolina star Drake Maye has a chance to be the 2024 NFL draft class’s best quarterback.

The 2022 ACC Player of the Year drips with potential. Maye threw a sparkling 63 touchdowns against just 16 interceptions in his three-year Tar Heels career.

However, North Carolina coach Mack Brown went a step further—telling the ACC Network on Thursday afternoon that Maye is capable of leading a team to the promised land.

“You’ve got to have a tremendous amount of talent to be in the NFL. And at quarterback, you better have it . You better have confidence. You’ve got to be able to walk in that locker room and everyone’s gotta stop, turn and look at you,” Brown said. “He’s got that.”

Maye steered the Tar Heels to 9–5 and 8–5 records in his two full seasons as a starter, finishing 10th in Heisman Trophy voting in ’22.

“He doesn’t even drink. He’s a great student. He works so hard and pushes himself,” Brown said. “The ceiling is so high for him because he’s only played two years. I mean this guy, he’s got Super Bowl written all over him at some point out there.”
