CHANTILLY, Va. ( DC News Now ) — Over the weekend, Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD) officers and Virginia State Police troopers broke up a car meetup, which started elsewhere but ended in a Wegmans parking lot in Chantilly.

The meetup, which ended without any arrests, comes just a few weeks after a “street takeover ” left an officer injured.

Early Easter morning, FCPD responded to a parking lot in Springfield when an officer was surrounded in her car by dozens of people at a car meetup.

“I believe that they fully intended to drag her out of that car,” FCPD Police Chief, Kevin Davis, said at a news conference in April.

A few people were arrested and they faced a range of charges stemming from speeding to eluding, to felony hit-and-run.

“They drive at high rates of speed, they endanger the lives of themselves, they endanger the lives of their other enthusiastic and masked supporters, and they act in a criminal nature far, far too often,” Davis said.

In the wake of another interrupted car meetup, DC News Now asked FCPD if it was taking any measures to prevent future car meetups.

    FCPD provided the following statement:

“Fairfax continues to monitor channels used to organize these car meets ups and ensure sufficient resources to address these issues as they arise throughout the county.”

Davis previously said the people who organize and attend these unauthorized car meetups often cross county and state lines to try and elude officers with knowledge of the event.
