Ian Miletic has made big waves this summer on the UAA Next Circuit. He is leading his Illinois Wolves program with 12.1 points on 2.3 threes made per game. He is also adding 4.1 rebounds.

“I create off my shot,” Miletic told On3 . “I create for my teammates, I like to create off closeouts, and kind of just read what the defense gives me. If people are flying out or hugging me on my shot, I know I can create going downhill. I have sneaky bounce, so I know I can get up there when I attack the basket. I’m a big energy guy, whatever it takes to win the game.

The 6-foot-6 shooting guard averaged close to 19 points and 9 rebounds this season at Rolling Meadows High/IL.

“I watch a lot of film with my shooting coach Zach Foster. So I’ll watch Jalen Brunson, obviously because he is from Illinois. But we watch a lot of Max Strus.”

On3 was able to catch up with Ian Miletic after a recent live viewing to talk about his recruitment.

“I haven’t taken any official visits yet,” Miletic said. “I’m talking with Marquette and Illinois about taking visits this summer.”

    Miletic talks Illinois

“Being from Illinois, it is the hometown,” Miletic said. “The facilities are great, I haven’t seen many facilities like that. They are very high-tech to prepare you for the next level, and beyond. The coaching staff at Illinois is very supportive. They reach out on a daily basis to check in with me.

“Coach (Zach) Hamer is the one mostly recruiting me, they have a good coaching staff there. I met in the locker room with the players after a game. They have great energy on the team and great team morale. Just good vibes over there. The games had great energy. When I went we were down close to the court and got to see all the little things like how the coach interacts with his players, and how the players react on the bench. I’m able to make mental notes of how I would fit into a situation and what it would be like if I went there.

Coach (Brad) Underwood has been to a couple of my games. He came right after I went to theirs, he said, “I got to return the favor.” I appreciated that. I’m looking forward to getting over there this summer to get to know more about the program.”

    Ian Miletic dives into Marquette

“My relationship is pretty good with them,” Miletic said. “Coach (Neill) Berry first saw me at our Jack Tosh Tournament. He’s been to some practices and was with me for the games I went up to. It was great down there. I talked with Coach (Shaka) Smart when I was on campus. Since then, he has been in touch with my parents a lot and he has been down to some of my games.

“I’ve been to a practice and a couple of games at Marquette. Coach Smart has gotten to know my family pretty well. We talk on a regular basis which is good. The facilities are great over there. They have a new practice facility coming in because Dwayne Wade donated some money. The players are nice. I’m looking forward to going over there this summer to get to know more about the program.

What really sticks out about Marquette is the relationship side of things. I talk to the coaches all the time, they’re always checking in on me, calling to see how I’m doing. They also have a huge alumni base in Illinois.”

    In his words

“I am hearing from schools like Indiana, Purdue, and Northwestern about getting on campus,” Miletic said. “They still haven’t offered yet. My dad went to Purdue and my mom went to Indiana, so they enjoy that. I want to take a couple of visits to some of the Midwest schools who are recruiting me, to feel things out.

“I’d like to take these visits during the summer time, after I get out of school,” Miletic said. “I’d like to commit before next school year, but that will come when it feels right. I’m not going to rush it.

“There is the fit piece that is big with me. What I feel with the players and the coaching staff, the all-around feel of being part of a program that wants to help me develop. Also, a program that is going to trust in me through the ups and downs and believe in me as a player.”
