Tennessee Basketball last season finished in the top five nationally in attendance for the sixth straight time. The Vols had a total attendance of 314,617 over 16 games, averaging 19,664 fans per game. Both numbers were good enough for fourth in college basketball attendance rankings.
Tennessee finished fifth in attendance each of the last two seasons, averaging 18,202 in 2021-22 and 18,781 in 2022-23. The Vols were fourth in both 2018-19 (19,034) and 2019-20 (18,990).
In 2015-16, the first season under Rick Barnes , Tennessee was 17th in attendance, averaging 14,233. The Vols were 20th in Year 2, averaging 13,637 in 2016-17, then jumped up to eighth in 2017-18, averaging 16,210.
Tennessee’s best finish nationally in average attendee was third in 1987-88, when the Vols averaged 20.823 fans during the first season at Thompson-Boling Arena.
Rick Barnes is 122-24 (62-20 SEC) at Food City Center as Tennessee’s head coach. The Vols are 17-7 against Associated Press Top 25 teams, 14-6 against teams ranked in the top 20, 11-4 against top-15 teams, 7-1 against top-10 teams and 5-0 against top-five teams.
Tennessee last season set a Food City Center/Thompson-Boling Arena single-season record with eight sold-out games. The full allotment of 14,500 season tickets were also sold out.
What we know about Tennessee’s 2024-25 schedule
Tennessee on Wednesday announced Syracuse as this season’s opponent in the ACC/SEC Challenge. The game is set for December 3 at the Food City Center in Knoxville and will be televised by one of the ESPN networks.
The Vols could play as many as four ACC teams this season. It was announced last week that Tennessee schedule a home-and-home series with Louisville starting at Louisville this November. The Cardinal makes the return trip to Knoxville in December 2025.
Tennessee will play Miami in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden in New York in December and the Vols are part of a four-team field in the Baha Mar Hoops Tournament in the Bahamas that also includes Virginia, St. John’s and Baylor.
The Vols will play two of the three other teams in the Bahamas Feast Week tournament.
Tennessee this season also finishes a home-and-home with Illinois, playing on the road against the Illini in December.
SEC opponents for the Vols
The SEC On May 13 announced conference opponents for next season, with dates to be announced later in the year.
Tennessee will play home-and-homes with Kentucky, Florida and Vanderbilt. The Vols will also host Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Mississippi State, Missouri and South Carolina at Food City Center next season.
They’ll play road games at Texas, Oklahoma, Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss and Texas A&M, along with Kentucky, Florida and Vanderbilt.
