Mason City woman struck by SUV and killed Wednesday
MASON CITY, Iowa – Someone was killed Wednesday evening when they were hit by an SUV in Cerro Gordo County. The Iowa State Patrol says Jade Danielle Quam, 17 of Mason City, was driving a 2004 GMC Envoy south on Plymouth Road when the SUV struck Jennifer Dawn Buls-Vrba, 42 of Mason City, in the 1500 block at around 6:12 pm.

Dubuque man arrested for child sex abuse in Mason City
MASON CITY, Iowa – A northeast Iowa man has been arrested for child sex abuse in Cerro Gordo County. Bennett Myhre Gonyier, 34 of Dubuque, is charged with second-degree sexual abuse. Investigators say Gonyier committed a sex act with a child under five years old in July. The abuse allegedly happened in Mason City.
(Updated 12:05-p.m.) 2 die in separate Iowa accidents Wednesday
(State News) – Two separate crashes in Iowa Wednesday, resulted in two deaths and one person injured. The Iowa State Patrol reports a crash late Wednesday morning in central Iowa’s Jasper County, claimed the life of a man from Polk County. 41-year-old Michael Croy, of Des Moines, died when the car he was driving collided head-on with a pickup truck. The accident happened south of Newton. Croy was traveling north on County Highway S 74 at around 11:50-a.m., when for reasons unknown, his vehicle crossed the center line of the road and collided with a southbound pickup driven by 62-year-old Karl Peters, of Monroe (IA). Croy died at the scene. Peters was transported to a hospital in Newton. Both men were wearing their seat belts. The crash remained under investigation.

North Iowa Woman Gets Up to 10 Years in Prison Stealing Over $100K from Employer
A north Iowa woman could serve up to a decade in prison for stealing more than $100,000 from her employer. The Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office arrested 40-year-old Malorie Hallock of Mason City last November after she was accused of embezzling the money while she worked at Studio 65 in Clear Lake, stealing $123,000 in business deposits between January and October of 2023. The criminal complaint says Hallock deposited the money into her own account.
