Centre County Commissioners Decide on Resting Place for Two Unclaimed Veterans
The Centre County Board of Commissioners recently made a decision on the final resting place for two unclaimed military veterans. Centre County Director of Veterans Affairs Brian Querry on May 7 presented the commissioners with two options for the unclaimed veterans’ cremains, with the first being Centre County’s columbarium in Union Cemetery and the second being Indiantown Gap National Cemetery’s columbarium in Annville. Members of Centre County law enforcement agencies and the local community gathered Wednesday at Talleyrand Park in Bellefonte to remember officers nationwide who died in the line of duty and to honor the everyday work of police. Spongy Moth Spraying Planned in Two Centre Region Townships
Two Centre Region townships are planning an aerial spray to control the invasive spongy moth. Ferguson and Patton townships will use a low-flying helicopter to spray select areas with BtK insecticide on Sunday, May 19, or Monday, May 20, depending on weather conditions. Ferguson Township wrote in a news release that spraying would occur between 4 and 9 a.m., while Patton Township is planning for it to take place between 4 and 7 a.m. BtK is a naturally occurring bacterium that produces a protein crystal which releases a toxin in the gut of spongy moth caterpillars. Centre County cemetery to honor fallen veterans on Memorial Day
Volunteers for the Union Cemetery in Bellefonte are preparing to honor fallen veterans this Memorial Day. They spent part of their Thursday at the Brockerhoff House making approximately 30 wreaths that will be placed on veterans’ gravestones ahead of Memorial Day. Those veterans died in the line of duty.
Happy Valley’s Got Talent to Showcase Student Performers
Talented students from across Centre County will take to the Mount Nittany Middle School stage at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 18, to perform in the annual Happy Valley’s Got Talent competition.
