Multiple southern Oregon schools awarded over $4 million in summer grant funding
MEDFORD, Ore. - Thousands of students will benefit from House Bill 4082, which sends $30 million in state funding for summer learning opportunities. The bill was signed into law on April 17 by Gov. Tina Kotek. Sen. Jeff Golden -- who represents Medford, Phoenix, Talent, Jacksonville, Ruch and the Applegate Valley -- was also a sponsor of the funding that estimates 48,000 students across Oregon will benefit from summer learning programs this year.

Residents should start planning for fire season, emergency manager says
MEDFORD, Ore. – Fire season is just around the corner, and it’s important to be prepared and start making a plan in case your home is threatened by a fire. “I think it's taking the time to, you know, have the conversation within your household,” said Aaron Ott, the Medford Emergency Manager. “What are we going to do if a wildfire comes? How are we going to evacuate? Where are we going to go? And again, making sure we have the notification streams up for that."
Medford holds Wood Debris Chipper days ahead of fire season
MEDFORD, Ore. – This week Medford residents can cut down on the fire fuels around their property with two days of wood chipping at city public parks. Medford Fire Department and Parks & Recreation are hosting Wood Debris Chipper days on Wednesday and Thursday at Donahue Frohnmayer Park and Fichtner-Mainwaring Park. Locals can drop off their clean wood debris, which will then be chipped in front of them and turned into mulch to be repurposed for city parks.

Upper Table Rock trailhead closed
The Bureau of Land Management is temporarily closing Upper Table Rock trailhead this week. Starting Monday, access to the two-and-a-half-mile trail will be prohibited as BLM works to continue improvements that started in late 2023. Crews will reroute some areas near the summit and complete drainage work on wet areas that developed over the winter.
