Amigos Locos brings fresh ‘Midwest Mexican’ dining
Michelle Rodriguez got her golden ticket and fulfilled her dream of starting a Mexican restaurant. Huston Hospitality owner Scott Huston brought her into the fold and let her work to bring a new dining experience to her hometown. "A golden ticket like Willy Wonka," Rodriguez said. "It was really surreal, just like seeing it and like seeing people eating the food and like seeing my logo on that really big wall. It was really surreal." Earlier in October, Amigos Locos , located at 4745 NW Hunters Ridge Circle , launched. Rodriguez said working with Huston on the project was amazing. "Creating a Mexican bar and grill has always been my dream," Rodriguez said. "I grew up here in Topeka. So, I just knew that there was a love for Midwest Mexican food; if that's a thing." 'Chef's Kiss' reopens as a new Topeka catering business
A recently closed Topeka restaurant is rebranding and opening as a catering and events business. Chef’s Kiss Ristorante closed Aug. 30 after only a year in business. The restaurant opened August 2025, serving Italian cuisine, wine and cocktails. The building at 1618 SW Washburn Ave. is now for lease. Head chef Kelli Page said personal health issues prompted her to step away from running a full-time restaurant. Page will reopen next month as a catering and events business operating out of The Woodshed Event Center at 1901 N. Kansas Ave. “Chef’s Kiss (Ristorante) was very demanding of my time,” said Page. “There were times I couldn’t be on my feet, and the restaurant really struggled.” She said running a restaurant required her to work six days a week, which impacted her health. “I had to be there," Page said, "and I neglected my health to the point that I was admitted to the hospital.” Page was searching for a commercial kitchen to fulfill catering orders placed before the restaurant closed when another opportunity presented itself. “It started out as me looking for a ghost kitchen I could do some catering out of," she said. "The Woodshed said that with all
