Serious injuries reported in Bates County crash
BATES COUNTY, Mo- A Butler man was seriously injured in a single vehicle accident early Tuesday morning. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol report, 18-year-old, Dylan D. Randalls, was traveling Northbound on I-49 when his 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee ran off the side of the roadway. The vehicle continued to strike a signpost, tree, and fence.

Fort Scott Soap Box Derby Reunion Race Is June 1
Pete Allen, Larry Ballou, Clete Hall and Jerry Witt were all Boy Scouts in a Fort Scott Soapbox Derby in 1951. Now in their retirement years, the four will compete in a similar race called the Marmaton Challenge on June 1 at 9 a.m. at the hill on National Avenue at Oak Street.

Cousins pitch Paola to state with back-to-back shutouts
ATCHISON – Cousins Jasper Logan and Hunter Loethen pitched complete game shutouts to lead the Paola Panther baseball team to its fourth consecutive regional championship. Logan allowed just five hits in the opener as the Paola Panthers defeated the Augusta Orioles by a final of 2-0 on Tuesday, May 14. He struck out nine.

Sylvia Ellen Woodall, age 85, a resident of Ft. Scott, Kansas, passed away Sunday, May 12, 2024, at the Guest Home Estates in Ft. Scott. She was born April 30, 1939, in Pleasanton, Kansas, the daughter of John Emery Henderson and Mary Olive Wilcox Henderson. Sylvia graduated from the Pleasanton High School. She married David Allen Woodall on January 31, 1960, in Miami, Oklahoma. Sylvia was a devoted wife and mother. She enjoyed cooking and sewing and caring for her family.

Meade, Allen, Todd win multiple events at regional track meets
EUDORA – Paola Lady Panther Jade Meade won two of the three throwing events during the Class 4A regional track and field meet. Meade placed first in the discus with a mark of 129 feet at Eudora High School on Thursday, May 16. She had a throw of 39-7.75 for first place in the shot put.
