Blue Collar Awards Event March 9 Will Benefit Local Trades Scholarships
Advance Bourbon County is sponsoring a Blue Collar Awards event on March 9 at Memorial Hall, located at Third Street and National Avenue. “The purpose is to raise money for scholarships for local students going to college in the blue-collar trades field,” said Josh Jones one of the organizers of the event. The scholarships will be awarded to Fort Scott and Uniontown students who apply and are eligible.

Fort Scott Community College Trustees Meet On February 29
The FSCC Board of Trustees will be holding a special board meeting on Thursday, February 29 at 1:00 pm. The meeting will be held in Burris Hall. The recently updated technology is not yet ready to carry a livestream, so the meeting will not be streamed. After calling the meeting to order, the board will adjourn to executive session for consultation with an attorney for the public body or agency which would be deemed privileged in the attorney-client relationship. A majority of board members may be present at noon to tour student housing, but no business will be conducted during the tour.

Eagle boys advance in Sub-State with win over Jayhawk-Linn
The Uniontown High School Eagle boys faced some hurdles in a 52-39 win over Jayhawk-Linn High School in the first round of Class 2A Sub-State Tuesday in Pleasanton. In the win over the No. 7 seeded Jayhawks (5-16), the No. 2 seeded Eagles (14-7) advanced to a semifinal matchup with No. 3 seeded Pleasanton High School (13-8) at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Pleasanton edged Prairie Village-Kansas City Christian High School (5-16) 59-56 on Tuesday.

Sara Sutton appointed as Vice President of Career and Technical Education and Workforce Development
Sara Sutton, who earned an Associate of Science degree from Fort Scott Community College (FSCC), a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture from Kansas State University, a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education and a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Pittsburg State University, has been appointed as the Vice President of Career and Technical Education and Workforce Development. Sara will begin her official duties in the role on July 1, 2024.
