Bryant Miley attended the 2024 Governor’s Valedictorian Reception at the Georgia State Convocation Center on June 1, 2024. Through his hard work, determination, and commitment to educational excellence, he became Valdosta High School’s Class of 2024 Valedictorian. We congratulate him on this extraordinary achievement, and we are thankful the governor gave him the opportunity to celebrate with his family, friends, and other valedictorians across the state of Georgia.
Naturally Southern to perform at Music in the Art Park Concert Series
VALDOSTA – Naturally Southern will perform live as part of the Music in the Art Park Concert Series at the Turner Center. The Annette Howell Turner Center for the Arts will host country/rock band Naturally Southern (2023 Georgia Country Awards Band of the Year and 2023 Georgia Country Music Hall of Fame)for a live Music in the Art Park concert on Fri., June 14 from 7-9 p.m. in the Art Park located at 605 N. Patterson St. The concert, sponsored by Greater Valdosta United Way, is free to the public.

LAKELAND, LANIER COUNTY, Georgia – With the inclusion of help from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), a limited amount of information is available since the homicide investigation is active and ongoing. The Lanier County News (LCN) did make and open records request of the Lanier County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO). According to the LCSO, they confirmed that on Sunday, May 2nd at “approximately 22:01 hours, Lakeland Police Department and Lanier County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to male who had a gunshot wound to the chest at [REDACTED], Lakeland, Lanier County.”
Coffee County Sheriff’s Office searching for missing mother, daughter
COFFEE COUNTY, Ga. (WALB) - The Coffee County Sheriff’s Office is searching for two people who were last seen on Friday, June 7. Cerenydi Thornton, 17, and Zylani Thornton, 2, were last seen in Douglas. The sheriff’s office confirmed with WALB that Cerenydi and Zylani are mother and daughter.
2 South Ga. animal shelters quarantining after dogs test positive for Parvo
ALBANY AND ENIGMA, Ga. (WALB) - Two separate animal shelters in Southwest Georgia are quarantining after some of their dogs tested positive for Parvo. At this time, it is unconfirmed if there was a connection between the outbreak at the two shelters, however, the virus is definitely impacting their everyday operations. Both the city of Enigma Animal Services and the Albany Humane Society had to euthanize a total of nine dogs in the last five days, eight of which were puppies.
