A historic Athens children’s home site has been commemorated with a colorful mural
ATHENS, Ohio (WOUB) — Every symbol on the new mural on the East State Street underpass, from paper airplanes to peanut butter sandwiches to pinwheels, tells a unique story. These stories celebrate the people of Athens and their commitment to caring for needy children. The mural also connects to the past and celebrates the future.

ATHENS, OH – Jonathan Falk says learning that a film he co-edited was featured in the Athens International Film and Video Festival (AIFVF) is giving him “all the feels.”. “I am extremely happy that American Meltdown, a film I had the pleasure of co-editing with fellow Ohio University graduate Josh Cole, was part of the Athens International Film Festival,” said Falk. “I also did an independent study in the AIFVF office when I was a student, so it’s really cool.” American Meltdown is a ‘Millennial Coming-of-Rage’ story about a young woman who loses her job and struggles to pay rent – until she befriends a pickpocket who convinces her that the only way to survive in America is by committing petty crime.

The mural on the underpass of US 33 over East State Street continues to take shape in Athens. Athens County Children Services commissioned Mandi “Miss Birdy” Casky, of Columbus, to paint the mural. Alexander inclusive playground project reaches milestone; seeks volunteers
ALBANY — The phrase “playground” often conjures up images of children running, playing and climbing; however, many forget those on the sidelines who older playgrounds were not designed for. Annah Korpi and Lisa Wigal are working to solve that issue. Working together over the past year, Korpi and Wigal recently reached a milestone in their work to replace the Alexander Elementary School playground with universally designed equipment.
