Beau Welling begins renovation of No. 1 public-access course in Vermont
Stowe Country Club, ranked by Golfweek’s Best as the No. 1 public-access course in Vermont, is slated to undergo a two-year renovation by golf architect Beau Welling. In the town of Stowe, the course originally opened in 1950 and was expanded in 1962 by William Mitchell. The club plans a growing membership, but public-access opportunities are available through stay-and-play packages at the Lodge at Spruce Creek. Legislative and Education Committee Update 5/6 through 5/10. Well, we made it. The end of the session officially occurred on Saturday, May 11th, at 2:07 a.m. To say it was a whirlwind of an end would be an understatement, with action happening on 68 bills this week. Notch Road opens for the season
STOWE, Vt. (WCAX) - A sign of the season -- Smugglers’ Notch is now open to drivers. VTrans says scenic Route 108 officially opened at noon Tuesday. Officials say new traffic control devices, chicanes, have been added on the Cambridge and Stowe sides this year to try and prevent large trucks and busses from getting stuck on narrow and curvy road.
St. J man arrested after reportedly tasing police officer
A St. Johnsbury man is due in court Monday after allegedly fighting two police officers and tasing one of them. The St. Johnsbury Police say an officer spotted John Stelzl, 35, shortly after 5:00 p.m. Friday on Bay Street. Investigators add that there had been recent reports of drug activity nearby and that Stelzl has a record of drug crimes.

Pared-down overflow parking lot for Stowe wins initial ‘OK’
STOWE, Vt. (WCAX) A pared-down plan for an overflow parking lot at one of Vermont’s busiest ski resorts has gotten an initial greenlight.
