ELKINS, WV (LOOTPRESS) – A West Virginia man has admitted to a firearm violation after having a gun while prohibited.

According to U.S. Attorney William Ihlenfeld, Wesley Shane Haggerty, 35, of Cabins, has admitted to the unlawful possession of a firearm.

According to court documents and statements made in court, Pendleton County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home on a report of a man waiving a gun.

When officers arrived, Haggerty fled on foot with a pistol and was arrested after a short chase.

Haggerty is prohibited from having firearms because of seven prior felony convictions and two misdemeanor domestic battery convictions.

Haggerty is facing up to 15 years in prison. A federal district court judge will determine any sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.
