According to Cal Fire, the Magnolia fire and the Almond fire are both at 100% containment.

There were no reported injuries or structure losses during either of the two fires.

Both fires ignited during the inaugural week of “Wildfire Preparedness Week ,” which was declared by Governor Gavin Newsom’s office in May.

Cal Fire representatives say they are actively working to reduce wildfire risks across the state by reducing overgrown brush among other mitigation efforts.

According to Governor Gavin Newsom’s office, Cal Fire, “...made significant progress on fuels reduction and mitigation, with more than 105,500 acres of fuels treatment last year.”

News Channel 3 spoke with Cabazon residents on scene at both fires Tuesday night. Many residents said that there should be increased year-round mitigation efforts in their area to reduce fire risks.

Scott Weaver, a Cabazon resident who said the Almond fire was burning rapidly right behind his home, said he and many of his neighbors feel that more should be done to protect their community.

“The authorities don't seem to do enough to come out and clean the brush off. Last year, we had like five fires in one week by the people out there in three dozen mobile homes living out there and this is bad fire situation,” said Weaver.

Craig Doppmann, a representative with Cal Fire, said local fire crews need the help of residents to keep the Cabazon community safe.

Doppmann shared the following tips to keep residents and their homes safe:

-Maintain 100 ft. of defensible space around your home by keeping dry brush at a minimum.

-Cut all hanging branches and trim trees within 30 ft. of your home.

-Use mineral soil or other non-combustible soils for any vegetation you have on your property.

Stay with News Channel 3 as we continue to track the ongoing investigation into both fires.
