    Vote now for Vermont Varsity Insider Athletes of the Week: Ballots for May 13-19

    Welcome to the fifth installment of the 2024 spring season for the Vermont Varsity Insider Athletes of the Week voting by high school sports fans.

    This week, and every week during the sports seasons, members of the public may vote for a top girls athlete and a top boys athlete.

    Varsity Insider Athletes of the week: Winners for the 2023-24 school year

    How do I cast my vote?

    All voting is through the two ballots at burlingtonfreepress.com. We will not accept votes through email or through social media.

    Voting began May 20, and continues through 11:59 p.m. Thursday.

    How do we learn who wins?

    The two winners will be announced in a story published at burlingtonfreepress.com on Friday.

    How can I nominate an athlete?

    We accept nominations via email: sports@burlingtonfreepress.com (Subject Line: Athletes of the Week nomination).

    Anastase Bourgeois, Oxbow softball: The Olympians ace tossed a one-hit, five-inning shutout with 13 strikeouts in a 13-0 win over North Country and recorded a complete-game, seven-hitter with 11Ks in a 5-3 decision over Blue Mountain. At the plate in Oxbow's 3-0 week, Bourgeois picked up five hits and five RBIs.

    Scout Harper, Burlington Ultimate: In a 4-0 week for the two-time defending champion Seahorses, Harper had five assists vs. Milton, six assists vs. Champlain Valley, a goal and six assists vs. Mount Mansfield and then a goal and seven assists in another narrow victory over CVU.

    Eden Roberts, Rice lacrosse: Roberts totaled 12 goals and nine assists in a 3-0 week for Rice, which defeated Lamoille 23-13, St. Johnsbury 12-10 and Harwood 12-11.

    Ashleigh Simpson, Lyndon softball: Simpson hurled a pair of complete-game wins with 19 combined strikeouts while going 6-for-13 at the plate in a 4-0 week as Lyndon routed Lamoille, Harwood and Thetford before a 13-8 decision over North Country.

    Amelia Weber, BFA-St. Albans softball: After going 1-for-2 with a homer and two RBIs in a 6-1 win over rival Missisquoi, Weber delivered a pair of three-run shots as BFA routed South Burlington 20-2..

    Boys Athlete of the Week nominees

    Angus Blackwell, Middlebury lacrosse: Blackwell followed up a three-goal effort in a 17-5 win over BFA-St. Albans with a six-goal outburst as the Tigers stormed past Champlain Valley 11-6.

    Brock Bushey, Milton lacrosse: After tallying twice in a 10-8 win over Burlington, Bushey pumped in five goals in a 13-8 decision over Spaulding.

    Zach Davis, Colchester baseball: The Bryant-bound Davis uncorked a pair of homers and fired a complete-game, four-hitter to lead Colchester past Essex 7-2. He also had a triple in the Lakers' 14-2 victory over Burlington last week.

    Kris Fennimore, Blue Mountain baseball: Fennimore tossed a complete-game, five-hitter with eight strikeouts while driving in two runs at the plate in a 3-for-4 effort to lead Blue Mountain past Peoples/Stowe 14-4. He also went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs in 14-4 decision over Richford.

    Thomas Meek, Essex track and field: The sophomore set personal bests in the 100-meter dash (11.45 seconds) and 200 (23.19) to earn first-place medals at the NVAC Metro freshman/sophomore championship meet held at Essex last week.
