Williamsport ranks second in Pa. cities where young adults want to build careers at home

Williamsport, Pa. — More than half of young Pennsylvanians say they want to stay in or return to their hometowns to build careers, according to a new survey, with Williamsport ranking second statewide among cities where that commitment is strongest. A resume.io survey of 3,052 adults ages 18–35 found that 51% of young Pennsylvanians are committed to putting down professional roots in their hometowns. Family ties and lower costs of living topped the list of reasons, and those willing to accept lower pay to stay local said they would take an average 10.5% salary cut. The survey ranked cities by the number of respondents who said they planned to stay or return, with a minimum of 50 responses per city. The top three Pennsylvania cities were: ErieWilliamsportAltoona In Williamsport, technical education and manufacturing support skilled careers in the region. UPMC Williamsport is Lycoming County’s largest employer. Pennsylvania College of Technology trains workers for fields ranging from advanced manufacturing to healthcare, while companies such as West Pharmaceutical Services and ANDRITZ offer additional specialist roles. Columbia County cattle farm project receives $2M grant

Bloomsburg, Pa. — The Pa. Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) has allocated $2 million in grant funding to the Luzerne Conservation District to assist with an ongoing project at Long Hollow Cattle Company in Columbia County. The grant funds will be used to implement two roofed heavy-use areas — 32 feet by 72 feet and 70 feet by 284 feet — fencing, roof runoff controls, access roads, animal walkways, watering facilities, underground outlets, and stormwater controls. “Securing critical funding for the 109th District requires relentless effort, strong advocacy and a commitment to delivering results,” said State Rep. Robert Leadbeter (R-Columbia). “Agriculture is the backbone of many of our communities and a vital part of Pennsylvania’s economy and heritage. I will work tirelessly to secure the resources and investments our farmers, rural communities, and local businesses need to thrive.” PENNVEST provides grants and low-interest loans for design, engineering, and construction of publicly and privately owned drinking water distribution and treatment facilities, as well as stormwater and wastewater projects.

Jersey Shore farm family brings local beef to school lunch trays

Jersey Shore, Pa. — Bridge View Farm, owned by Todd and Casey Bowes, has joined the Pennsylvania Beef Council’s PA Beef to PA Schools (PBPS) program to supply locally raised beef to Jersey Shore Area School District lunch trays. The farm made its first delivery to the district in October. Deliveries will resume in January, providing about 50 pounds of ground beef each month through the rest of the school year. Todd Bowes, a Jersey Shore Area School District graduate, is a third-generation farmer. The family began offering freezer beef directly to customers in November 2025 and now raises about 150 head of cattle, buying feeder cattle and raising them to market weight. The farm takes its name from the one-way Tiadaghton bridge near the family’s home. “People want to know where their food comes from, and we love having the opportunity to share what we do and how our beef is raised,” said Casey Bowes. “So many of our customers are families right here in our community. Knowing that the same beef they trust to feed their families at home can now be served to their children at school makes this partnership especially meaningful.” Casey Bowes, a full-time nurse
