Contributed by Sharon Butler and Jonathan Stevenson / Hitting the road to Alabama for Sharon’s solo show “March” at the Sarah Moody Gallery at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa in late March, we knew from ongoing contact with gallery director and art professor William Dooley and his assistant Vicki Rial that a deftly curated presentation in a beautiful space and a warm reception from the Art Department were in store. The students and gallery patrons who attended Sharon’s artist’s talk were inquisitive, smart, and welcoming. What we did not expect was the prevalence of so many talented people in the wider art community spanning Tuscaloosa and Birmingham, which we discovered is rich with deeply engaged artists, curators, and gallerists.

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) - The Tuscaloosa Fire Department has taken a major step towards keeping you safe and working to reduce the death rate on some calls. First responders now have a way to give you red blood cells in the ambulance. The purpose behind the new program is to treat badly injured patients on the scene with new packed blood cells. In other words, replace what they’ve lost whether it’s a gunshot wound or car wreck.

Tuscaloosa County School System Offers Training, Immediate Work for Bus Drivers
The Tuscaloosa County School System is looking to hire bus drivers for work available immediately and will host meetings next week for potential candidates to learn more. TCSS told local media Wednesday morning that they are in need of bus drivers and bus aides. The school system provides all training needed to carry out the job including guiding newcomers to earn a Class B CDL with passenger and school bus endorsements and a State of Alabama School Bus Operator’s Certificate.
New Tuscaloosa County jail addition will be fortified with mental health component
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WBRC) - Work is well underway at the Tuscaloosa County Jail to not only build a new jail, but usher in a new era of mental and psychiatric care. The new jail annex has been built. Inmates have been transferred to the annex for now. The new jail should be ready by 2026.
