PD: Suspect in Brownsville motel shooting identified, possible ‘love triangle’

BROWNSVILLE, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — Police identified the suspect and motive in a Brownsville motel shooting Thursday morning.

At 10:16 a.m., police received a call of a shooting at the Flamingo Motel, at the 1700 block of Central Blvd., where a man and woman were shot.

Upon arrival, they found and tended to a wounded 20-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman, who were shot in the legs, police said.

While at the scene, police were told that the suspect had fled the scene. At 10:36 a.m., officers located the suspect’s vehicle, a red Toyota Camry, at the 1600 block of E. Price Road.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. As it came to a stop, one of the passengers, identified as 17-year-old Celestino Cruz Pulido, attempted to flee but was apprehended.

Two 9mm handguns were recovered from Pulido, police said.

“Preliminary information revealed that the incident arose due to a jealous, love triangle situation between the victims and Pulido,” Brownsville Police Department Public Information Officer Abril Luna said.

Pulido and the driver of the Camry, identified as 19-year-old Mario Angel Castillo, will be facing criminal charges.

Brownsville police told ValleyCentral that the two victims were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
