NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A Brooklyn man was indicted on Wednesday for allegedly punching a woman in an unprovoked attack and breaking her jaw, according to prosecutors.

Franz Jeudy, 33, from Crown Heights, was indicted for second-degree assault, attempted second-degree assault, third-degree assault, and related charges, Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced.

According to court documents, on March 26, Jeudy allegedly punched Dulce Pichardo, 57,  while she was walking on Grand Avenue near Atlantic Avenue in Crown Heights at around 5 p.m.

She walked by Jeudy, a stranger, who then allegedly punched her in the face without any provocation or words being exchanged between them, prosecutors said.

The victim then ran to a nearby restaurant where her brother worked and pointed out Jeudy to him. Her brother then allegedly chased Jeudy for several blocks and held  Jeudy until police officers arrived.

The victim was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital.

She suffered fractures to both sides of her jaw and lost multiple teeth, according to prosecutors.

When the case was first opened up,  Jeudy was facing charges as a misdemeanor assault but, after a review and due to the extent of injuries, the charges were upgraded to a felony, Gonzalez explained.

“Random attacks against strangers, especially women, are beyond senseless and completely unacceptable,” Gonzalez said. “A grand jury that heard all the evidence returned an indictment for felony assault and we will now seek to hold the defendant accountable, so he will not repeat this outrageous and criminal conduct.”

Jeudy, remains on supervised release and was ordered to return to court on July 2. The DA’s Office requested $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bond.

If convicted of the top count, he faces a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.
