The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office says 77-year-old Nancy Bartles, of Rock Port, was charged with Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian Resulting in a Person’s Death. Neither speed, alcohol, drugs, nor distracted driving were factors in this case.

The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office says Michael James Johnson, 52, of Malvern, was arrested February 22nd at the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office on a warrant for OWI 1st Offense, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Johnson was released on $1,300 surety bond.

JOHNSON, NE - The Johnson-Brock Eagles' boys basketball team will defend its state title after grabbing a 45-29 win over Elmwood-Murdock on Saturday in the District D1-2 Final. The teams were tied at 13 through the first frame, but the Eagles were able to pull ahead at the half, 22-16. That lead built to ten points after three frames, and Johnson-Brock didn't let up in the fourth. Camden Dalinghaus led three Eagles players in double-digits with 14 points. Lleyton Behrends dropped in eleven, and Brody Koehler had ten points for JB. The host squad hit 7/12 at the free throw line, and the team committed just eight turnovers, while racking up 13 steals.

JOHNSON, NE - As heard on B103 & B103.FM, the fourth-seeded Johnson-Brock Eagles were ousted by the 13-seed of Bancroft-Rosalie in a heart-pounding District D1-4 girls basketball final Friday night, 65-63, in quadruple overtime! The teams were knotted up after the first quarter. Johnson-Brock built a 24-19 lead at the half, but then fell behind 38-36 following the third quarter. With 45 seconds left in regulation, the Eagles hit a pair of free throws to tie the game and force OT...but the teams were just getting warmed up. In OT's one and two, each team scored four points, and Johnson-Brock led just once by a single point. In the third bonus session, BR built a second four-point lead in extra basketball, but again JB came back to tie things and force more hoops. In the fourth extra period, the Panthers never went up by more than three, but JB went 5/8 at the free throw line for all of their points, while BR went 5/6 there and hit a single fieldgoal to hold on, 65-63.

AUBURN, NE - The Auburn Bulldogs kept their streak of District Finals appearances alive with a solid 58-29 win over Wilber-Clatonia in the Subdistrict C1-1 Championship Game on Thursday. River levels improving at Riverton WMA, pumping underway
(Riverton) -- After months of delay, officials with the Iowa Department of Natural Resources are pumping more water into the Riverton Wildlife Management Area. That's according to Iowa DNR Wildlife Biologist Matt Dollison, who gave an update on the management area on the latest "Outdoors in KMAland" segment. Construction delays on the pump itself, followed by abnormally dry conditions, prevented the Iowa DNR from pumping water into the north marsh from the West Nishnabotna River during the usual fall pumping season. Now, Dollison says river levels have improved just enough to begin operating the pump and filling in portions of the currently dry north marsh.
