BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. (WBOY) — A ribbon-cutting was held at Hanlan’s Meat Market on Thursday to celebrate the new Harrison County business.

Bridgeport native Ben Hanlan and his wife jumped at the opportunity to own the business when the then Maple Valley Meat Market building came up for sale . The business operated under the previous name in Bridgeport for nearly 30 years.

“I love the place,” Hanlan said in an interview with 12 News. “I love what they created here. So I basically went out, called the realtor—I was here probably within 24 hours, walking around and I basically told the Thomas’ (the former owners) ‘I want to keep what you’ve built and add to it.’ Yeah, I didn’t want it to change, didn’t want it to turn into a Sheetz or anything like that.”

The market, which will have new signs showing the new name soon, has a small restaurant and a fresh meat department specializing in custom cuts and unusual meats like bison and venison.

Hanlan’s is now open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday through Saturday. You can still find the business on the same social media pages .
