First Alert Weather Day: Renewed flooding this morning with more storms possible overnight
Yesterday’s late day rain coupled with widespread overnight rain stretching into this morning has produced at least an inch of rain for many locations, but much higher rainfall totals have been seen near and especially east of I-35 overnight. The highest rainfall totals over the lasts 24 hours has stretch from Limestone and Freestone County into Leon County where radar estimated rainfall totals have been between 4″ and 10″ in some spots. The heaviest rain has fallen between Mexia and Groesbeck stretching eastward across the I-45 corridor. Although the widespread rain is gradually going to end this morning, the flood waters may be very slow to recede where the heaviest rain has fallen. Not only will the flood waters take some time to recede, but we’re also not completely finished with rain just yet today or even stretching into the upcoming weekend. The widespread overnight rain should come to a close before 7 AM for the entire area, but we’ll likely see a few more scattered showers and non-severe storms develop behind the overnight area of rain and push through for the first part of the morning. Scattered showers and storms this morning should gradually pull away during the course of the day and many folks should dry out by the lunch hour and into the afternoon. Rain chances go from near 50% this morning down to 20% this afternoon with highs reaching the upper 70s and low 80s. We’ll have a chance for more storms to push in overnight tonight into tomorrow morning. The overnight and early morning storms aren’t guaranteed, but these storms could produce heavy rainfall and may potentially contain gusty winds and some hail too. Overnight rain chances are near 50%.
