UPDATE: Plea docket set for former Braman town clerk charged with embezzlement

NEWKIRK — Sandra Kay Barrows, 61, Wakita, waived her right to jury trial and is now set for a plea docket on Jan. 11 in Kay County District Court. Barrows is facing two felony counts of embezzlement by a public officer after the State Auditor’s office determined that over $60,000 was misappropriated from November of 2016 through April 17, 2019. One person injured in apparent accidental shooting in Ponca City

PONCA CITY, Okla. - Ponca City police are investigating after one person was injured in what officials believe was an accidental shooting on Thursday evening. Investigators said the incident happened near S 6th Street and Madison Avenue. Officials said the victim was transported to a nearby hospital to receive treatment.

UPDATE: Suspended sentence issued in child neglect case

NEWKIRK — Timothy Dale Compala, 42, Blackwell, appeared in Kay County District Court before Judge David Bandy and prosecutor Billie Chrz and entered no contest pleas to two amended charges of misdemeanor failure to report child abuse. He was originally charged with child neglect. The court accepted the plea and concurred with the recommendation of prosecutors and sentenced Compala to one-year suspended in the county jail. He is also ordered to complete 60 hours of community service.

NEWKIRK — Alejandro Flores Juarez, 33, appeared in Kay County District Court this week before Judge Thomas Griesedieck and assistant district attorney Billie Chrz and entered a guilty plea to child neglect.
