An accused thief is facing charges after she had to bail out of a stolen pickup truck because she couldn't drive stick shift.

According to the Boulder Police Department in Colorado, the woman had just been released from jail on Friday -- following her arrest in another vehicle theft case -- when she walked a half mile down the road and spotted a parked pickup truck with the keys inside.

The woman hopped in the truck and began to drive off, only to discover it had a manual transmission, which she did not know how to operate.

When she couldn't figure out how to drive the truck, she jumped out of the moving vehicle, which then crashed into a fire hydrant.

The woman tried to run away but was caught moments later.

"Stick Shift FTW," the police department posted on X . "Not a standard recommendation for car theft prevention, but this past Friday a stick shift kept a thief from getting far in a stolen car."

The stolen pickup truck was returned to its owner. No injuries were reported.

The woman, who was not named, is charged with felony second-degree motor vehicle theft/enhanced circumstance, careless driving, driving without a valid license and duty upon striking unattended vehicle or other property.
