Colorado football star dismissed by Deion Sanders enters transfer portal again

Former Colorado football defensive lineman Bishop Thomas is entering the transfer portal for the second time after being cut from the team.

Thomas had originally joined Colorado from Florida State with hopes high that he could have a future in the NFL if his development continued from under Deion Sanders . However, Thomas found himself on the wrong side of the coaching staff during the season, a year that included him being dismissed from the team in late February for violating team rules at the end of the campaign.

Thomas was one of the players Amazon Prime's "Coach Prime" series followed closely, with the expectation that the FSU transfer would take both his and the Buffaloes defense to the next level.

Thomas had been one of many players from Florida State to transfer to Colorado ahead of the 2023 season, including defensive backs Travis Jay and Omarion Cooper, defensive end Derrick McLendon, and linebacker Brendan Gant (now with the Carolina Panthers).

Having played in nine games for the Buffaloes last season, with 117 snaps on defense, he contributed six tackles and two fumble recoveries, but will now seek a fresh start.

The Buffaloes have seen over 70 players enter the transfer portal since Sanders joined as head coach - leaving a huge turnover for Sanders and his staff who continue to rebuild the roster.

Sanders did not mince words when he became head coach, particularly after witnessing the team's performance in their first spring game in 2023, essentially telling many of players that they would need to leave.

He also declared he would be bringing student-athletes from his former school in Jackson State - while recruiting other players to transfer to the school, most notably many from Florida, telling players at the time.

"You all know that we're going to move on from some of the team members, and we're going to reload and get some kids that we really identify with. So, this process is going to be quick, it's going to be fast, but we're going to get it done."

Earlier this week, Sanders was accused of "destroying" players' confidence since becoming head coach. Safety Xavier Smith was one of many players to leave Colorado in the first wave of exits following Sanders' takeover. Sanders' son, starting quarterback Shedeur caused a stir when he tweeted: "Ion even remember him tbh. Bro had to be very mid at best."
