Police take aim at Ulster Public Defender’s office
ULSTER COUNTY – Police chiefs from several departments in Ulster County are blaming the Ulster County Public Defender for keeping officers off the streets while watching defendants who cannot be arraigned because the public defenders are not showing up for arraignments in local courts. If officers are not available to watch the defendant, they are typically released back into society.

A woman with a prior misdemeanor DWI conviction was charged with a felony DWI on Thursday in Delaware County. Ulster County Executive Jen Metzger and county legislators have asked the New York State Department of Transportation (NYS DOT) to investigate the safety of Route 44/55. This request comes as the Town of Plattekill reviews an application for a large warehouse in its BD-60 zoning district. The proposed warehouse, at 2021 NYS Route 44/55, would be 451,000 square feet. County officials have concerns about the current traffic analysis and want a more detailed study.
