WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ohio — An Ohio police department is warning the public of a scam involving a family

The Village of Beverly Police Department (VBPD) in Ohio says they have received numerous reports about a couple with two young children. The couple, claiming to be from Romania, are soliciting money, stating they need funds to travel to Texas.

VBPD says the individuals have stopped at local churches in Beverly and a church in Morgan County.

VBPD says they were previously made aware of a Romanian gypsy group traveling in other parts of Ohio and surrounding states, luring people by using the children to get into homes and businesses to commit theft.

VBPD is strongly advising residents to refrain from allowing these individuals into their homes, and to immediately contact the police if approached. This precaution is crucial to ensure the safety of our community.

The male is described to be in his 20s, 5’2-5’4 in height, with light brown skin, and wearing sweats and a t-shirt.

The female is stated to be around 5’2-5’4 in height with black hair and dark skin. She was wearing a long black dress and also appeared to be in her 20s.

The children, male and female, are stated to be between 4 and 6 years old.
