UMES issues apology after perceived anti-LGBTQ comments at concert
UMES has issued an apology to the performers and attendees at its recent homecoming gospel concert after a student emcee made comments "that may be percevied as derogatory to the LGBTQIA+ community." Here's what the university had to say in a release on the incident. "On Sunday, Nov. 1, a University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) graduate student serving as a student emcee during a homecoming gospel concert made comments that may be perceived as derogatory to the LGBTQIA+ community. "UMES does not condone hate speech of any kind, and apologizes to the featured performers Tye Tribbett, B. Slade, and Preston Jonzell, as well as event attendees. Respect and inclusivity are important values to the UMES community. "The situation is being reviewed, and the University will take appropriate actions. "University Counseling Services are available for any student affected by Sunday’s events at 410-651-6449 (Daily 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.), or via the 24-Hour Crisis Line: 410-651-HELP."
