Unbeaten Warriors show drive, run away from Wi-Hi
EASTON —Easton High’s football team has shown its big-play potential from the opening kickoff this season. The Warriors used that ability again to their advantage Friday night, but also showed they could piece together long, steady scoring drives when needed during a 42-7 victory over Wicomico on senior night. “I think what you saw tonight is what’s going to happen as you get into the playoffs,” Easton head coach Matt Griffith said after No. 20 Easton erupted for 35 second-half points en route to raising its record to 8-0. “You’re going to have to have those kind of drives to be successful. Very happy with the way they responded in the second half.” Maybe it was pregame senior night festivities or the remnants of last Thursday’s impressive 55-37 victory over Stephen Decatur, but Easton didn’t look like itself in the first half, as it took a 7-0 lead into the locker room. “Wi-Hi did some really good stuff, trying to put more pressure than we could handle,” Griffith said. “We had to make a few adjustments, tried to make them during the first half. They just weren’t understanding what we were doing. “Made the adjustments at halftime, it was totally

Easton upends Decatur in duel of unbeatens
BERLIN — The list of options on Easton High head football coach Matt Griffith’s play-calling sheet has been long this season. His list of those deserving praise Thursday night may have been longer, after the Warriors went on a season-high scoring binge during a 55-37 victory over Stephen Decatur in a clash of Bayside Conference unbeatens at Louis H. Taylor Stadium. “That’s a very good football team,” Stephen Decatur head coach Russell Croteau said after Easton, ranked 21st in the latest Maryland High School Football Media State Poll, improved to 7-0. “They’re going to make a nice long run in the state playoffs just like we did a couple years ago.” The Warriors certainly looked to be trending in that direction Thursday. Easton senior Ja’Zir Dickerson ran for two touchdowns, added a two-point conversion, and snagged a pair of interceptions. Fellow senior JaDereon “Flash” Thompson had a touchdown reception, returned an interception to set up the Warriors’ second touchdown, and almost had a second pick. Running back Jamier Copper ran with patience and punishing intensity during a season-high 179-yard rushing performance that included three touchdowns. Senior quarterback Brady Walls delivered another strong effort, completing 11 of 19 passes for 141

The Raiders had suffered from a devastating loss to the Howard Wildcats, 46-7, during their last outing on Thursday, Oct. 1.

Delaware State AD Tony Tucker returning to roots with St. Andrew’s job
Before he became Delaware State University athletic director, Tony Tucker had spent much of his career in secondary education. Now he will return to such a role, as DSU announced Oct. 15 that Tucker is stepping down as athletic director to take a position at St. Andrew’s, the private boarding school for ninth- to 12th-graders near Middletown. Tucker worked at St. Andrew’s at the start of his 35-year career in education. He will return in November as senior associate director of admissions and director of strategic projects and external relations, according to DSU. Deputy AD Brian Ellerbe will oversee athletics while DSU mounts a national search for Tucker’s replacement. Tucker came to DSU in April of 2023 as senior associate vice president of athletics and in January of 2025 became athletic director. “The university is a special place, a place where thousands of alumni have mentored literally tens of thousands of young people in competitive sports and beyond, around the world,” Tucker said in the DSU statement. “In Delaware, I have felt that impact all of my life: trained, coached, mentored, and guided by countless Delaware State alumni, in the classroom and beyond. To have the opportunity to give back
